CHOOSING THE RIGHT SCHOOL FOR YOUR CHILD
☺️☺️ Alas...! Summer is almost over, how time flies! Now a lot of parents are preparing to get their children back to school for the new academic year. For some others, this would be the first time their child will be attending school and they are really concerned about getting the right school for their child.
A lot of school owners and educators at this time are really hopeful that all pupils in their schools are retained and more children added to their numbers especially at this crucial period of rigorous marketing and mouth watering discounts or benefit by most schools.
How then can one be sure of choosing the right school amidst the enticing offers and advert jingles in the air by most schools around?
So, few years back I also like many of you now went school hunting. Yes, I worked in a school and my baby stayed in the creche but distance from home to work daily really affected his health and we were advised to get a creche for him nearby. The search began ...😊 The way I went about the search one would think it was for a university. Yes, even though it was just for a creche, I left no stone unturned. Being an educator, I knew exactly what I wanted and wouldn't settle for less.
Myself and hubby had visited nothing less than four schools that Friday and Saturday morning but we couldn't find anywhere befitting. The option of managing one from those we've checked so far came up but as an educator, I wasn't going to settle for less. I knew the type of school environment I'd be willing to leave my child for at least 10hours daily. Later that day, he drove around and a school caught his attention. He told me, "I'm sure you'll like the school when you see it" , quickly I rushed down there with him. Though it was a Saturday and the gates were locked but it had some space by the sides where one could see clearly. Wow! I loved what I saw, the environment was so clean and really beautiful. I knew I had found the right school for my child.
We called the phone number on the bill board close to the school and the reception was really warm. By the time we visited the school by Monday morning, everything about the school was remarkable. From their unique style of greeting, the warm welcome by the HOS to the excitement on the teachers faces, everything was captivating and too good to be true.
Our discussion with the Head of School was climax for me. She rolled out all the major accomplishments of the school and spoke with such gusto that we marveled at her passion and confidence. Though our child was only a few months old, she told us of some major milestones we should expect our child to attain. She also assured us that if registered, his achievement from that stage will be far higher than what his age group would do in other places.
Yes, she was so true to her words, we saw a huge difference in the state of his health and he exceeded his milestones at every stage. Yes, he is still a pupil of Divine Offspring International School till date.
So, please as you go about searching for a good school, first have a picture of the environment you want for your child. Also, request to know about the schools' achievements and what you should expect to see in your child if enrolled in the school.
Please your criteria for choosing a good school for your child shouldn't just be the beautiful uniform, school building, school name, school fees or the trending school in town. We should look out for schools that will give VALUE and I mean, VALUE for your MONEY💰😂😂👍👍
Watch out for another intriguing episode in few days especially if you are a class teacher or home tutor.
Yes, very true. The impact the school will have in your child is more important than school uniforms and buildings even though they're also points of attraction. Good write-up.

ReplyDeleteValue is key for me. Friendly and safe environment too matters. Teachers and HOS must also be welcoming and loving.. in all the school must be Godly. Thanks.

ReplyDeleteLike you mentioned, the first factor I consider before choosing a school for my ward is the school environment.
ReplyDeleteI often ask myself; is the environment conducive for learning and safety?
💯💯🤩🤩 Your contribution is well appreciated 🙏👍
ReplyDeleteNice writeup.. Well done Mrs Epum
ReplyDeleteGreat writeup ma.
ReplyDeleteJust to add, I think one important factor to also not overlook when looking for a school for our wards, is "the Leading of the Holy Spirit", for believers.
He knows and sees beyond what we can see physically.
When we wanted to enroll our kids in school, we had expectations, but we also knew we wanted them to be in the school God wanted for them. We went to several schools, but we felt led to the school they are in now. The environment and all the physical things we could see was ok but the curriculum and their style of teaching was something we couldn't picture at that time. But guess what, when they started the school, based on conviction from the Holy spirit and what we saw physically, it matched our expectations and even much more.
And yes, my kids are in Divine Offspring International School.
More grace ma.
