🎄🌲☃️☃️ It's Holiday and Christmas is just in few days time. A lot of people especially the kids are excited about the season. Now school has gone on break and children are home to spend the yuletide season with their families.
Children look forward to Christmas yearly and it will be just great to be spontaneous as possible in our celebration just to give our children a wow experience.
Now, I know a lot of teachers have been looking forward to this holiday which happens to be the longest break in a year and they really want to maximize each day to relax before getting back to the classroom. However, do you know you can make your name ring a bell in the homes of your pupils' this season? You can give your pupils the best christmas experience ever without stressing yourself in doing so much yet bringing joy to the hearts of your pupils.
So, recently after spending about a week at home and was truly missing my pupils, I pondered about how my cuties might also be missing me and since I teach 4-5year olds they certainly don't have a phone. So what can I do? The first thought was to put a call through to all their parents but I thought that might not bring the surprise/ excitement well enough, network issues was another and the cost of call card in calling all 15pupils at a stretch was another. I certainly wouldn't want to leave any child out.
So what did I do? Voice notes!!! Yes 👍 WhatsApp voice note did the magic. I sent recordings to every child, mentioning their names, telling them how much I missed them and wished them happy holidays and merry christmas to those who celebrate Christmas.
Wow...! The outcome was massive as my pupils responded immediately with calls and messages in return. Their parents were super excited and I could sense the deep sense of joy in their hearts and in their homes as they put the calls through and sent me messages to send their appreciation.
I was really humbled to know how this my "little act of playfully reaching out" to my pupils brought so much love, joy and happiness to their homes.
So if you are a teacher please remember Christmas is also about giving and bringing joy to others. Be sure to bring joy to your learners especially at this time. Let your name ring a bell in their hearts and in their homes. You don't have to wait to visit their homes on Christmas day uninvited. You can do something creative and spontaneous today.
Dear mummies and daddies if you are wondering what you can do in a different way this Christmas, I'll share a few of what I experienced while growing up but has changed in many homes recently.
1. Christmas Movies - while growing up you'd hear the sounds of this movie; The birth of Jesus from the rooms of almost every home even TV stations would air this movie for long hours till Christmas day and even after. We can rekindle this in our homes. A lot of children hear things like manger, shepherds but don't really know what they look like. It can be a great learning curve for the kids.
Also, there are more interesting animated versions that can be downloaded from the internet.
2. Christmas Chicken - It was always a great pleasure to see our parents buy the Christmas chicken, nurture them for days before killing and dissecting them for cooking. They will show us the various parts as they dissect. I remember the bile and they will tell us how delicate and bitter it is. Once it bursts, the chicken is wasted. Lot of science learnt I believe 😂😂
3. Christmas Carols: You would hardly visit anyone at this period while growing up and not hear Christmas Carols from their houses. Even on the streets Christmas Carols were played loudly.
A lot has changed with time but these things were so valuable to us as kids such that from the month of October we already started counting up to Christmas.
So many of us had this experience let's try to incorporate some of it again in our homes and watch how thrilled our children will be. It's not only about going to fun places, we can make Christmas memorable even right inside our homes.
